Gadza scores eight, adds nine assists as Zagreb book a QF spot against Meshkov
In what was the final match of the regular part of the season for both teams PPD Zagreb have managed to dominantly defeat Meshkov Brest 30:24 securing second place in their group after the regular part of the season and booking SEHA quarter-finals spot for themselves.
Match was, as expected, tough and narrow from the very first minute. Defenses were functioning exceptionally well on both sides from the beginning and as a result of that, fans in Dom sportova sports hall saw only 23 goals in the first half.
Ante Gadza led Zagreb offensively in the first scoring five goals while Maxim Baranau on the other side scored three for Meshkov. Best move of the first half was without doubt Nemanja Obradovic and his last-second goal from the nine-meter line which is something we don’t really see that often. However, on Monday evening, he managed to get it to go past all six home-team defenders as well as Matej Asanin.
Hosts opened the second half better quickly opening the gap to four goals as Ante Gadza kept on leading the way in attack with both goals and great assists. Meshkov's coach decided to change the defensive scheme and it appeared to be good but only for a short amount of time as Zagreb kept on opening the gap in the end taking an easy 30:24 win against Belarusian champs.
Zagreb have that way managed to finish 2019 in a victorious manner securing the second place in their group and booking SEHA quarter-finals spot for themselves. Ante Gadza played one of his best matches in PPD Zagreb’s jersey scoring eight and adding nine assists. League’s best scorer Mikita Vailupau on the other side scored five for guests.
