Gorenje just shy of 40 goals in Novi Sad as they stay in Final 4 race
Another convincing (27:39) win for Gorenje against Serbian champions after leaving Vojvodina on an even bigger minus of -17 in their premier encounter of the season in Rdeca dvorana.
Match opening didn’t suggest such an outcome with Kasim Kamenica’s team entering it in a pretty good way. However, after 7:9 ‘black period’ started for hosts linked with a red card of their first-choice goalie Svetislav Verkic. Gorenje were obviously eager to prove last round’s draw against NEXE was just a coincidence and a bad day as they, mainly on the defensive side of the court, worked their way towards enlarging the gap to six goals (13:19) after first 30 minutes of the match.
Matic Verdinek and Rok Golcar led Slovenians with six goals each in what was yet another good attacking day for Gorenje Velenje as they missed a 40-goal margin by only one today.
Slovenian vice-champions have this way managed to stay in F4 race. They are currently fifth with 21 points, only five away from their biggest national rivals Celje Pivovarna Lasko (26) with four more matches left to play in the regular part of the season.
