Can Tatran take down yet another big name?
Only a few days after a quality CL opener against Wisla in Plock, reigning SEHA - Gazprom League champions will on Tuesday host Slovak champions Tatran Presov. Both teams are SEHA members from League’s very beginning with Vardar obviously having a favorite role in this one. Match is scheduled for 20.45 CET in Jane Sandaski sports hall.
Hosts are living an amazing record winning 21 out of last 23 matches and it is clear they would like to prolong the streak. Tatran have so far managed to record two wins against Vardar - one in Skopje back in 2013/2014 season (37:33) and one in Slovakia (29:20). Last season Vardar dominated both matches securing two double-digit victories.
Guests, on the other side, had much more time to prepare for the match which might prove to be a big advantage. On the other hand, Vardar are clearly rising from match to match and they will surely look to additionally improve form in this one for upcoming CL challenges.
Raul Gonzalez, Vardar coach:
We’ve seen some of Tatran’s previous games. They are playing quality handball with good defense. We’ve on the other side just returned from Poland and players are feeling a bit tired. We’ll use Monday to rest them and tomorrow we’ll decide who will play against Slovak champions. We are favorites in my opinion but we must not enter the match relaxed. Tatran can beat anyone and that’s why we’ll need to play good defense. We are currently positioned first and we want to stay there.
Stojance Stoilov, Vardar player:
We opened the season the way we wanted - three SEHA wins and one in EHF CL. I hope we’ll prolong the series against Tatran although they’ve already proved they can be an unpredictable team. We need to prove our favorite role on the court.
Slavko Goluza, Tatran coach:
We are not going to Skopje with a white flag as we’ve prepared for the game very well. I expect us to play a very good match. I see our chances in the fact that Vardar will be tired after EHF Champions League game. We have to be fully focused and show the right attitude in case we want to reach a good result.
Michal Kasal, Tatran player:
We would like to surprise Vardar and win the game. We’ve given everything in preparation period for this match in order to reach a victory in Skopje. It will definitely be a tough match. Vardar will not have any time to rest after Champions League game. We have to fulfil every instruction our coach gave us if we want to win.
Match will be broadcasted on EHF TV, Arena Sport channels as well as MRT (Macedonia).
