Euro wrap up – big victories for Veszprem and PPD Zagreb in CL
ALL SEHA Gazprom League's participants were active in European championships during the weekend behind us. In Champions League's group A we have witnessed some great performances by Veszprem and PPD Zagreb. Veszprem were better than Kiel with 29:27 (Gulyas 5) and PPD Zagreb were at home too strong for Polish Wisla with 29:25 (Stepančić 8). Veszprem are with 9 points from 5 rounds leading the group and are only team in Champions League so far without a loss. Zagreb is on position 3 along with Flensburg with 6 points. In the next round Hungarians will travel to France to meet PSG and Zagreb will play Besiktas in Turkey.
In group B Vardar have lost their first match of the season, in Denmark against Kolding 33:31 (Maqueda 7) but are still leading the group ahead of home-court derby against Kielce.
In group C Tatran have managed to reach their first victory but Meshkov and Vojvodina were not as lucky. Tatran played well beating Chehovskie Medvedi 27:21 (Hrstka 8). Meshkov were not able to reach an away victory in Portugal loing to Porto with 29:28 (Stojković 9) and Vojvodina lost at home against La Rioja. It was 26:31 with Nikolić scoring 5 for hosts. In the next round we will see same matches but as if reverse fixtures.
In EHF's Cup Borac and NEXE have managed to get through round 2 unlike Spartak and Maks Strumica.
Borac were at home stronger than Haslum (29:28, 31:25 - Bojinović 13 in two matches) and NEXE have proved to be a stronger rival in Croatian derby against Varaždin ( 30:20, 32:21 - Zrnić and Božić-Pavletić 10 goals each). Now they have to wait for round 3 and in case they manage to get through they will reach so called 'little Champions League'.
Spartak were on the other side not able to beat Belgian Haselt in two duels (20:27, 23:21 - Đekić 10) and Maks Strumica have ended their European adventure in duels against Haukar from Iceland (20:34, 24:29 - Pecakovski 11).
