Final 4 MESHKOV Last year second, now hoping to go all the way
For the first time in four seasons, Meshkov Brest have entered SEHA Gazprom League as Belarus champions. As much as it has boosted their confidence it has also opened more challenges for them, one of which surely was EHF's Champions League. It was a parallel battle for them with SEHA League being stronger than ever. However, Meshkov have entered the season to go a step further than last season when they have lost in final against Vardar and try to reach the crown for the first time.
So far it is going good, even better than previous season. Veszprem's presence has made a road to Final tournament much harder but Belarus champions have played well finishing third with one victory (13-0-5) and two points (39) more than last year. New system has, however created a new challenge for them because they will first have to meet NEXE in little semis and a victory would bring them to Final Four semi-final where they would play reigning champion Vardar.
Meshkov have this season managed to beat NEXE twice, in Brest it was 29:26 and in Osijek 28:25 which makes them big favorites in this encounter. Team might be a little tired from Champions League's challenges against PSG, Kiel and PPD Zagreb but CL has for them ended a month ago and coach Željko Babić has surely had enough time to prepare his team for Final tournament in Hungary.
Team is much stronger than last year. Nikola Manojlović, Janko Božović, Simon Razgor and Dmitri Nikulenkau are all players ready to make a difference on court which should, combined with other great players they have in their roster, be enough to secure Final Four semi againsr Vardar. It is also important to say Meshkov have this season already proved they know how to play against current Macedonian vice-champions beating them clearly and Brest (30:22) and losing narrowly in Skopje (25:28). That was also one of their five defeats of the season, along with one at home against PPD Zagreb (28:29), two against Veszprem (31:26 and 17:29) as well as one against Tatran (26:22). Belarus champions however have a clear goal and the one is to win all three upcoming matches until the end of SEHA season and reach crown for the first time.
