Final 4 PPD ZAGREB Fourth Final tournament appearance
Zagreb's handballers have in four SEHA League's seasons managed to catch Final tournament all four times! This season was not best so far but has, overall looking, changed much speaking of Croatian champion.
Zagreb have this season reached fourth place. Comparing it with the past, in the first season they were number 1 after the regular part of the season, in the second 4, and last season second with 4 points more than this season. Howeveri t would really be wrong to say that this season was a step back with results reached in Champions League looking truly amazing. PPD Zagreb have reached Last 8 after not being able to get through the group phase in previous two seasons.
Season has started roughly, with Boris Dvoršek on the bench who was soonly (after a loss against Tatran) replaced by Veselin Vujović. Two home-court defeats were in the end costly for Zagreb. We might even say it was expected for Croatian champions to lose against Veszprem but against Tatran (21:25) and Meshkov (21:24) that was surely not the case. However, it is also important to mention great moments - victories against favorized Vardar at home (25:22) and against Meshkov in Brest (29:28). But, despite of those great accomplishments, they have finished fourth.
Another big problem were injuries. Roster was not full until the last round with Pavlović, Mandalinić, Vuglač and Josip Valčić missing at some point of the season. Čelica has joined the roster in the second part of the season and it was not easy for him to become part of the team so quick.
Zagreb's best scorer of the season was Luka Stepančić with 55 goals, captain Zlatko Horvat has only one less.
In little semis in Veszprem (Wednesday 20.15 CET) they will play Tatran which was twice better than them this season.
