Meshkov reach third position with a narrow win over Metalurg
Meshkov have managed to remain in race for third place on League’s table after a narrow triumph over Metalurg 25:23. Macedonians were close to a big surprise but Stojković and Manojlović have proved to be clutch players for Belarus team scoring two great goals in the end and bringing their team important points. With 30 points, just like PPD Zagreb and Tatran, Belarus champions are in a good position with three more matches to play - at home versus Tatran and away versus Vojvodina and Metalurg.
Hosts have opened the match better reaching +5 in only 12 minutes and keeping it all the way through the first half-time until last few minutes when Metalurg scored few fast goals reducing the gap to -3 before the half-time whistle. In the beginning of the second half Belarus champions were once again better reaching +6 but then it seemed like they thought the match was over and that Macedonians can not catch them anymore. It has almost once again proved that in SEHA GSS League you can not take anything for granted with guests reaching an equaliser at 23:23 only 4 minutes before the end. However, in the end Meshkov have reached 3 new points on wings of experienced Serbian duo Stojković - Manojlović combining for final 25:23.
Željko Babić, Meshkov’s coach
We were aware before the match that Metalurg are still a strong team and that it won’t be easy. We’ve had good periods but we’ve also had bad ones and I’m sure we’ll reduce them until our future challenges starting with the match against Tatran.
Dzmitri Nikulenkau, Meshkov’s player
Most important matches are still ahead of us and I believe everything is going to be OK. There is, in my opinion, nothing to worry about.
Lino Červar, Metalurg’s coach
We’re struggling real hard to get through this tough period for us. I believe my players have deserved at least a point here today. I know it would have been a big surprise but they have played really well. It is however obvious that we’ll need much time to grow as a team, gain experience and become better. I only hope injuries won’t be a problem for us on that way and that’s why I wish everything to be alright with Marko Neloski.
Goran Krstevski, Metalurg’s player
We fought hard through the match and in the end we’ve even had a chance to reach a point, maybe even a victory. However, in my opinion, their experience has today decided the match.
