Routine win for Meshkov and a big step towards quarter-finals
Meshkov Brest were clearly eager to decide everything in their premier eighth-finals encounter against BSU using their strongest roster and taking a highly-dominant 46:26 win ahead of tomorrow’s second leg.
Belarusians were dominating the match on both sides of the court shooting 85% with their goalkeepers stopping 45% of shots. Biggest advantage they’ve had in this one was +21 (46:25) with about a minute left on the clock.
Despite of the fact they have in the end suffered a tough loss, BSU once again showed that they’ve progressed as a team since joining the league. With a bit less than ten minutes left until the end of the first they were only four goals behind. However, after that, they just weren’t able to cope with motivated Meshkov.
Maxim Baranau finished the game with eight goals while Branko Kankaras added six for Belarusians. Pesic (10) and Matskevich (11) combined for 21 saves. Qinglong Xie on the other side scored seven for Beijing Sport University.
Winner of this eighth-final matchup will meet Motor Zaporozhye in SEHA - Gazprom League Play-Off quarter-finals.
