SEHA stars' notable national team achievements
Even though European championship brought the most attention to many handball lovers, January featured some other competitions in which current and some former SEHA stars shined bright and made incredible achievements.
The year could not start better for Telekom Veszprem's right back, Yahia Omar. Yahia, with his national team of Egypt won the African Cup of Nations. They beat Tunisia 27:23 in the finals and were crowned African champions. This victory had an added meaning as Egypt booked a place at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. This was a special result for the Egypt's coach, Roberto Garcia Parrondo who used to coach Vardar.
Veszprem's line player, Rogerio Moraes Ferreira celebrated the second place at the 2020 South and Central American Men's Handball Championship with the national team of Brazil. With this result, Brazil ensured a place at the Olympic Qualifications in April.
Nexe's gem, Mario Tomic also started the year with a medal around his neck. His national team, Qatar won the 19th edition of the AHF Asian Men's Handball Championship. This is their fourth title in a row, and Mario Tomic had a big impact in this achievement.
