EHF EURO 2020: meet Group A
Among 24 teams that will this January compete at the EHF EURO 2020, 7 SEHA countries will be in the action. Among other participants, there will also be plenty of SEHA stars who will wear their national team jerseys. Group A is especially interesting because it consists of three SEHA countries. These countries will start their journey in Graz, where they will be based in preliminary round. So, let's meet them!
First of them is Croatia. A team lead by Lino Cervar has got many incredible results achieved in their past. But, they are seeking their chance for winning the only gold that's missing in their medal collection. Some well-known SEHA stars will wear Croatian jersey in order to make these dreams come true. PPD Zagreb's goalie, Matej Asanin, alongside David Mandic, Valentino Ravnic, Matej Hrstic, Zlatko Horvat and Marin Sipic will be a part of this ambitious squad.
The second team that is a part of this group is Belarus. This team will be eager to achieve better result than they did at the previous European championship back in 2018 when they finished on the 10th place. With Meshkov Brest's players such as Andrei Yurynok, Maxim Baranau, Mikita Vailupau, Viacheslau Shumak and goalie Ivan Matskevich they can hope for the best. Also, Motor Zaporozhye's star, Barys Pukhouski will have such an important role in this squad. With the captain tape wrapped on his arm, there is no doubt that this quad will aim high.
Belarus will start their EURO journey against another SEHA country, Serbia. This will be 6th successive European championship for Serbian Eagles. Without a doubt, silver medal won back in 2012 on the home court will be on their minds as they will look to present themselves in the best possible light this time as well. On that path, they will have Eurofarm Rabotnik's star, Milan Dukic. Alongside him, there will be Zivan Pesic from Nexe, Stevan Sretenovic from Vojvodina as well as Telekom Veszprem's magician between the posts, Vladimir Cupara.
In this group we will have the chance to see some other well-known SEHA players. Mirko Radovic from Eurofarm Rabotnik, Stevan Vujovic from Motor Zaporozhye, Milos Bozovic who just signed with PPD Zagreb alongside Branko Kankaras will be a part of the Montenegrian squad who is the fourth team from this group. All countries from this group will play their first matches on Thursday, 9th of January.
Outside of this group, some well-known faces from Vardar will also compete at the European championship. Goalkeeper Arturs Kugis, alongside Dainis Kristopans will be a part of the Latvian national team. They will start the competition in Group C, where they were placed with Spain, Germany and Netherlands.
