First win and precious points for Meshkov Brest
Well-known SEHA face, Meshkov Brest won their first points of the season after winning at home against rookie Spartak 35:24 (17:10). After two matches, the newcomers from Russia are still without points.
Brilliant start of the match for Belarus champions was crucial for further course of the match. After 4:0 advantage in the opening minutes, guest coach asked for a time-out, but Meshkov continued to dominate on court. Spartak managed to score the first goal in 11th minute, but that was not enough to make a surprise or a turnover.
Alexander Shkurinskiy with 5 goals and Mikita Vailupau with 6 goals, altogether with amazing goalkeeper Ivan Matskevich with 12 saves lead the home team to seven goals advantage at half-time. Meshkov Brest’s players were motivated to show the strength and confirm the role of favourites in this match.
Home team played compact, disciplined and efficient. Russian team missed several attacks and made some tehnical mistakes which allowed Meshkov to “escape” to double digits’ advantage (29:19).
Goalkeeper Ivan Matskevich had 17 saves, and Mikita Vailupau with 9 goals were the best players in home team. Alexander Shkurinskiy scored six times, and had 6 assists. Nikita Nikulin had 12 saves in Spartak team and Aleksander Dereven netted five times for the guests.
In the next round Meshkov will travel to Sabac and will meet with Metaloplastika. Spartak will face Telekom Veszprem in Moscow.
