EHFCL and EHF Cup recap: Nexe beaten by Fuechse Berlin, Vardar are headed to Cologne!
EHF competitions are reaching its pinnacle, and unfortunately only one SEHA – Gazprom League team is going to continue their European journey. Nexe were not able to hold onto the 8 goal lead they accumulated in the first match.
EHF Cup ¼ finals: Fuechse Berlin- Nexe 25:16 (14:9)
After winning the match in Nasice 28:20, Nexe could not hold on and were beaten by Fuechse. Offensively Nexe struggled to score most of the time, and were only able to score 16 goals. Vedran Zrnic was the only one who found the way to the net consistently, scoring 7 goals. Sasa Barisic-Jaman also chipped in 4 goals, but there was no real flow in Nexe's game. The Croatian vice-champions still had a brilliant campaign in the EHF Cup, and came incredibly close to the EHF Cup Final 4.
EHFCL ¼ finals: Vardar- THW Kiel 27:28 (13:13)
Despite a loss in SC Jane Sandanski, Vardar are Cologne bound for the second straight year! The 29:28 win in Kiel proved to be crucial for the Final 4 battle! Vardar were led Vuko Borozan who scored 6 goals, Luka Cindric added 5 goals to this loss that was just enough for the Macedonians to reach Cologne. The EHFCL Final 4 is scheduled for 26th and 27th of May, and Vardar are of course going there as the reigning champions!
