Kastelic scores three as PPD Zagreb take a narrow win against Metalurg
Match was close from the very beginning which was not far from expected with PPD Zagreb missing so many players. Coach Saracevic decided to give youngsters a chance with both Vekic and Lucin having significant playing time in the first. Horvat was once again leading Zagreb with 4 goals, Kontrec added as much while on the other side duo Jaganjac - Kuzmanovski tormented home-team defense combining for 8 out of 13 Metalurg scored in first 30.
Defenses were dominating the encounter in the second half as well. Croatian national team player Halil Jaganjac and Macedonian NT player kept on in the high tempo they set in the first combining for amazing 17 goals in the end. That was, however, despite of all the injuries 'Lions' are currently dealing with, not enough for Macedonians to stun Croatian champs. Throughout the bigger part of the second half goal difference was three goals in favor of hosts.
Metalurg managed to keep the tempo high not slowing down as they usually do and even had a chance to pull off a surprise when Vanja Ilic netted one to put them only one goal down (29:28) with less than a minute to go. However, Pavlovic kept his focus scoring his first of the day to finally secure three points for Zagreb (30:28). Interesting is that in the second half, Urh Kastelic took advantage of mistakes Metalurg made in power-play actions scoring three goals from as much attempts which is not that usual for goalies. Tin Kontrec and Zlatko Horvat scored eight each for PPD Zagreb. Filip Kuzmanovski netted as much for Metalurg while Halil Jaganjac led the scorers today with 9.
PPD Zagreb will in the next round host Vardar and Metalurg will travel to Velenje.
