Will the absence of three first-team players once again prove to be costly for Vardar?
After Meshkov Brest stunned them in the first round of the second part of the season forcing them to leave Brest with only a point, which was the first time for such thing to happen to Raul Gonzales and his guys so far this season, Vardar will on Saturday end their two-game road trip in Slovakia where they will in Presov meet Tatran. In their first match of the season guests from Slovakia were in Jane Sandaski sports hall way closer than expected to surprising favored Macedonians on wings of a superb performance of their goalies who back then combined for 14 saves. In the end only -4 (32:28) as an additional motivation for Slavko Goluza and his players to deliver a strong outing against weakened Vardar which once again won’t have Cupic, Borozan, Abutovic and Nedanovski in their roster. Can Slavko Goluza follow Bebeshko’s steps and prolong the bitter intro to the second part of the season for Macedonians or will the title holders rise and end the road trip on a high note in Presov?
Match is scheduled for Saturday (18.00 CET) and will be broadcasted on ehf TV, MRT (Macedonia), Sport TV (Slovenia) and Arena Sport (Croatia, Slovakia).
Slavko Goluza, Tatran Presov coach:
Vardar Skopje are a very a strong team with strong individuals. They are reigning both Champions League and SEHA League champs. We have our own problems but we must do everything we can to improve our form and deliver best possible outing. I’d like to use this opportunity to invite all the fans to come and see what I’m sure will be an attractive game with some of world’s biggest handball names at the moment who also played a significant role on recently ended EURO in Croatia. We’ll have two recently crowned European champions playing here on Saturday - Spanish players Sterbik and Canellas.
Ante Babic, Tatran Presov player:
We’re expecting a very tough match against European champs here on Saturday. Vardar have a lot of great players in their team but our fans can be sure we’ll give our best out there and hopefully deliver a solid performance. It will be an excellent game I believe.
Raul Gonzalez, Vardar coach:
Tough away match in Belarus is behind us after which we immediately left for Slovakia. There is obviously not much time for analysis and preparation. Tatran are always a hard team to play against no matter their roster at the moment. This season they proved their capabilities and started the year off amazingly. In addition to that they had more time to prepare for this match but of course, despite of all that, we want to win every time we step on the court and Saturday is no exception.
Stojanche Stoilov, Vardar player:
Second tough away match in a row. We did not have much time to rest as we immediately left for Slovakia after the match against Meshkov. What we know is that Tatran are a young, good team and of course it will be an interesting match.
