Tatran Presov looking for a place in the EHF Cup group stage
After being eliminated in the Champions League qualifying tournament held at the start of the season, Tatran have a chance to feature in the group stage of the EHF Cup. Their opponents are an Icelandic team FH Hafnafjordur, 18-times champions of Iceland.
Hafnafjordur have already beaten 2 teams en route to the third qualifying round. In Round 1, they managed to win against a Czech team Dukla Praha, recording wins in both matches. However, their next double header was much closer- against the Russian club St. Petersburg. Hafnafjordur lost in Russia by 4 goals, but were able to record a 5-goal win at home. That saw them head to the third round against the Slovakian champions Tatran Presov.
Tatran have been playing really well in the SEHA- Gazprom League this season, winning 5 times in the first 7 rounds, holding the second place in the standings. Their head coach Slavko Goluza was aware that his team is going against a strong opponent and said the following for the club’s website: ‘We must focus on our own performance. We know they play quite fast, they want to score a lot of easy goals from fast breaks, and play 6-0 defense. They are a good team, so we have to stay focused the entire match. I hope a lot of fans will be with us in the Arena. With their support we can achieve a good result.’
The first match of the tie is played in Presov, on Saturday 25th of November, at 19:15 CET.
