Šprem: 'We're favorites but we have to prove it on court!'
Šprem: 'Favoriti smo ali moramo to opravdati na terenu!'
Serbian vice-champions Spartak Vojput are waiting for the home clash against PPD Zagreb on Saturday, 18.40 CET in another gala handball evening in Subotica. Team from Serbian North have managed to win 10 points in SEHA GAZPROM League so far, but apart of that, Branislav Zeljković' guys gave solid resistance on home court to some much stronger rivals.
Spartak got reinforcement between posts where experienced Vladimir Abadžić, former Sintelon and Partizan goalie replaced Dražen Stojanović.
On the other side, PPD Zagreb are coming to Subotica only three days after defeat against PSG Handball at EHF Champions League, which could be a chance for outsiders from "Dudova šuma" hall.
PPD Zagreb' coach Veselin Vujović made two changes in the squad in comparation with the last match. Line player Stanko Sabljić and left wing Lovro Šprem have replaced Leon Šušnja and Antonio Kovačević.
PPD Zagreb have celebrated in first clash against Serbs with 36:22.
Branislav Zeljković, Spartak Vojput' coach:
Our rivals were much better than us in the first match last Autumn. We have great respect for our rivals, among them are European championship medal winners, that speaks a lot about their quality. We will give our best to play good as we can. Preparation period is behind us, we did a good job, and also we have a good atmosphere. We didn’t play friendly match good enough, but that is understandable because we worked a lot without freshness. We did something in that way during this week, so I expect much better performance. Zagreb have advantage due quality of their roster, but you have to take in consideration that they had tough match against PSG on Wednesday. On the other side, my players have big motivation to play good match after long break. This will be a great opportunity for all handball lovers in Serbia, Vojvodina and Subotica to see a great handball match. We have some changes between the posts. We haven’t been satisfied, so we signed Abadžić, goalkeeper with great experience, who showed his quality in pre-season matches.
Veselin Jelić, Spartak Vojput' line-player:
We are aware of Zagreb' quality and strength. However, that give us an motive more for even bigger fighting spirit and good match. They are favorites, but we won’t give up. You can expect that we will fight until the last second. I would use the chance to call all the fans to support us in battle for good result.
Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb' coach:
The biggest problem could be motivation. To play against PSG Handball, and then Spartak, it is a big quality difference. I afraid that players won’t have serious approach to the match. I will try to make them ready and fully concentrated from the first minute, to show that quality is on our side. Our goal is to play good and save some energy for tough match against Tatran next Tuesday. I have 20 players in the squad. The best option is when they are all fit, so I can keep the players form with rotations. I hope that Sabljić and Šprem will grab the chance.
Lovro Šprem, PPD Zagreb' left winger:
We've already forgotten about PSG Handball, it is time for the second part of SEHA GAZPROM league. We are favorites, but we have to start match with maximal approach to avoid uncertainty. I am sure that Spartak will play better than in Zagreb.
