After beating Tunisia in the final match, Lino Cervar's men have won gold at the XVIII Mediterranean Games in Tarragona. Slovenia finished 5th with a victory over Portugal, whilst Serbia lost to Algeria in the match for the 7th place.

Croatia started the tournament with two group phase victories- against Italy and Algeria. The Croatians then proceeded to beat Slovenia in the quarter-finals with a score of 17:16. The semi-final match against Spain was incredibly tight, and Croatia needed overtime to achieve a 31:29 victory to book a place in the final. Tunisia awaited in the final match, and it came down to the wire. PPD Zagreb's Josip Bozic Pavletic scored twice in the last minute, and the tournament-winning goal came with only a couple of seconds left on the clock. In the end, Croatia defeated Tunisia to win the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games for the first time in 17 years!

Other SEHA countries also provided some good matches. Slovenia finished second in their group that also featured Tunisia and Montenegro. Losing against Tunisia and beating Montenegro brought them a quarter-final match against Croatia. A narrow loss in that match meant that they had to settle for a match for the 5th place. Zabic and Verdinek scored 5 goals to defeat Portugal 31:25. Cehte and Suholeznik each added 4 more to ensure the fifth place in the tournament.

Serbia finished 2nd in Group D, a group that featured Turkey, Egypt and Macedonia. Macedonia finished 4th, only beating Serbia, but losing to Turkey and Egypt. Serbia drew with Turkey, and beat Egypt 42:33 and their quarter-final matchup was the Spanish team. The match saw the hosts achieve a comfortable win- 35:25, and Serbia then had to fight for the 7th place in Tarragona. Unfortunately, Serbia lost to Algeria 30:28, and ultimately finished 8th.

In the end, many SEHA – Gazprom League players definitely gained valuable experience representing their national teams. That may prove to be very important for them, as it could help them get a place at other big tournaments
