EHF CL Round 4: Meshkov climb group B ladder, wins for Vardar and Veszprem
Four rounds of EHF Champions League’s group stage are behind us. The best SEHA Gazprom representatives in Champions League this season so far are two-time SEHA champions Vardar Skopje having four victories after four rounds with the last one coming after the match against Pick Szeged this weekend. Dibirov was once again dominating the match with 8 goals leading his team to a 30:27 win. Croatian playmaking duo was also on a high level with Cindric scoring 5 and Karacic adding 4 for Macedonian side.
Telekom Veszprem are as well in a good position after four matches with 6 points and an important win against Kiel from the last round. Match was narrow but it is widely known that Hungarians rarely lose such duelsin front of their home crowd. In the end 21:19 with Ancsin and Marguc scoring 5 each. Ilic added 4.
Zagreb was this round a place to be if you are SEHA Gazprom League’s fan hosting SEHA derby of the round with Meshkov coming to Zagreb in a good mood after some well performances and results in both SEHA Gazprom League and Champions League. Unfortunately for home fans, PPD Zagreb have prolonged their bad series in Champions League this season with another loss. This time it was 22:27 for guests with Horvat scoring 6 along with Markovic and Miklavcic who have added 4 each. Kristopans was on the other side unstoppable scoring 7 for guests. Atman and Nikulenkau were also playing on a level high enough to stop ‘Lions’ in front of more than 10,000 of their fans in Arena Zagreb scoring 5 each.
Celje PL were eager to find an end to their bad series but mission was tough, close to impossible in Poland against reigning Champions League champions Kielce. Hosts have managed to decide the match in the second half easily cruising towards 31:23 victory. Janc scored 7, Mlakar added 5, Malus 3 but that was not enough to stop title holders who are in great form in the beginning of the season.
In the next round Telekom Veszprem will travel to Spain to meet Barcelona, Celje will look to end series of defeats in Sweden against Kristianstad, Zagreb will once again host SEHA derby of the round with Vardar coming to visit and Meshkov will travel to Hungary for a face-off against Szeged.
